Sharon Marston
Working to an architectural scale Sharon Marston specialises in the design and creation of bespoke sculptural light installations for interiors.
The studio has won international acclaim for its range of breath-taking chandeliers, vibrant backdrops and luxurious room dividers and have pioneered the use of fibre optic technology in bespoke lighting. Each design introduces the light source through the specialised use of fibre optics filaments, which, combined with colour and form, give the work its signature ethereality.
Since the studio was established in 1997 Sharon Marston has developed a team of highly skilled, trained staff who hand-craft the decorative components of the lights customised to the client’s exact specifications. All the work is British made and hand crafted in the UK to the utmost luxury standards.
The work fuses materials sampled from a range of industries and craft disciplines crossing boundaries between art, fashion, product design and combining traditional processes and techniques with contemporary design. Materials such a fine bone china, hand-blown glass, woven polymers are commissioned for each project to work in harmony with the fibre optic filaments - creating dramatic lighting features for any setting.
Sharon Marston’s designs have been specified in a wide range of prestigious locations such as the ICONSIAM Bangkok, Venetian Sands Macau, Bighorn Properties Palm Desert US and UK based; Wardian London, Chelsea Barracks, Southbank Place London. Commissions for the hotel industry include installations for the Intercontinental Group, Okura, Hyatt Regency, Four Seasons and the Mandarin Oriental to mention a few.
The company exports approximately 60% of work each year to the US, Asia and Middle East with the remaining business being UK based. With Brexit almost upon us the concern would be for our suppliers unable to easily access the raw material that are required to create certain aspects of the work and ultimately leading to price increases.
Despite the challenges that Brexit brings I believe designers and makers will always push boundaries and continue to focus on creating forward thinking, innovative work that flies that flag for the UK creative industries.
