Why do you think it is important to celebrate International Women’s Day?

Women are often invisible in our industry, or not seen as the creative forces they are. While I would love to live in a world where International Women’s Day is not necessary I feel that until women enjoy the same visibility as men it is important to shout about our achievements.

Have you faced any challenges in your career as a woman and if so, how did you overcome them?

The greatest challenge I have faced as a female architect is not fitting the mould of what people think an architect should be - from contractors, to clients, to other consultants. It is still very male-dominated, particularly in leadership positions. While things are changing, the greatest challenge is overcoming perceptions, and this can only happen by being extremely knowledgable, so no-one can dismiss your expertise.

Is there another woman on whom you would like to shine a light, in the luxury property industry and why?

Yes, Laura Marino of Studio L and Alchemi Group. She has been the most wonderfully supportive client and is also a creative force in her own right as an interior designer.

How can we encourage more women to pursue entrepreneurship or senior leadership roles in the luxury property industry?

Recognise their worth, give them work and promote them. Don’t just see them as the workhorses, but as the creative leads.

What is the best advice you have been given?

Just keep swimming.

At The Luxury Property Forum we truly believe in “you cannot be what you cannot see”.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, throughout March we are shining a light on our wonderfully inspiring female members who are all leaders in luxury property. If you are an LPF Member and would like to celebrate a senior female mem
