Member Collaboration: House of Red and Cullum Design
They say property is all about people and collaboration, and this couldn’t be truer for The LPF, where Poppy, Creative Director of House of Red, and Natalie of Cullum Design, recently connected at a networking event. With both of their careers rooted in staging, they had plenty to discuss. Over the years, they’ve witnessed the staging industry evolve and transform, giving them a shared perspective on how far it has come.
Poppy’s work has evolved into interior design, while Natalie continues to focus on styling. So, when Natalie received an inquiry from a family relocating from Manchester to the Southbank, needing help to get their new property turnkey ready by the end of the summer, Poppy was the natural collaborator who came to mind
THE BRIEF
Designing a vibrant and playful home for a family relocating to the Southbank
The brief was to design a colourful, bright, and uplifting home for a family of four moving from Manchester to the Southbank.
The family sought help to design and manage this project whilst they still reside in Manchester, making it both a creative and logistical challenge for them.
The apartment was also an unusual shape being hexagonal, so working with a creative team that specialised in spatial planning was key.
The property required a complete redecoration, including new carpets, improved joinery, and fresh paint throughout. The furniture scheme had to meet the family’s needs and align with the design brief. As a team, we aimed to ensure a stress-free process for the client, allowing for a seamless transition from Manchester to London
For the furniture scheme, the brief was to create a colourful, coastal vibe with natural elements, while incorporating modern touches. We used linens and stripes in a calming colour palette, echoing the playful atmosphere that defines the design. Our client wanted their bold and fun personality reflected throughout the home. The key challenges were working with the apartment's unusual shape and ensuring the design aligned with both the client’s expectations and budget
Collaboration is a key strength, and we both value the benefits it brings. As creative entrepreneurs, having someone to bounce ideas off, attend on-site meetings, and navigate the project's timeline—especially during the children's summer holidays—made working together a natural choice. It not only made the project more fun and interesting, but also helped reduce stress. Most importantly, collaboration ensured that the client remained the top priority, with their expectations not just met but exceeded
