INTRODUCING THE WHITELEY

The Whiteley is the large-scale reimagining of the former Whiteleys shopping centre in London’s Bayswater. Designed by Foster + Partners, The Whiteley will feature 139 world-class, modern residences, twenty new shops and restaurants, a cinema, a large-scale gym, a high-profile public arts programme and London’s flagship Six Senses hotel and spa with 110 rooms, as well as its social wellness club.  A joint-venture development between MARK and C C Land, with Finchatton acting as development manager, The Whiteley is set to complete in 2023.

Beyond its footprint, The Whiteley will herald significant public realm improvements, providing a beating heart to Queensway for both residents and the wider neighbourhood and communities to enjoy. Collective landowner investment will allow for over half of the street’s existing fabric to be revitalised, bringing grand pavements, new retail opportunities, workspaces and restaurant operators into the wonderfully eclectic mix, while providing a new gateway and runway to central London’s largest Royal Park, Hyde Park.

Upon joining, LPF Founder, Priya Rawal sat down with Finchatton Sales Director — Charles Leigh.

Charles, welcome to The Luxury Property Forum. The Whiteley will in no doubt be iconic for London and will be one cemented in history. Can you tell us what make The Whiteley unique from other Finchatton developments?

Definitely Priya, The Whiteley is in no doubt an incredible project to be a part of and what makes it unique is its sheer scale, the prime central London location and the incredible architecture. Firstly scale. At over 1.2 million square feet and covering an entire city block it is one of the largest development sites in London and by far the largest residential led development.

There is an exciting mix of uses with 139 residential apartments, a 109 key luxury Six Senses hotel with its incredible wellness centre and spa, a private members club, 18 shops and restaurants and all the ancillary parking and amenity spaces that come with all of that. It is truly vast in scale and composition. Secondly, you cannot get more prime – it’s right next to Hyde Park.

And finally the architecture is just a sight to behold. It celebrates the heritage of the building which opened in 1911 to great fanfare with all of Britain’s Lords and Ladies in attendance. It is a truly magical building of great stature. We are so proud of how beautifully the project is unfolding and what a wonderful place it is going to be to live.

It sounds fantastic Charles and we are all so excited for it. We are also excited to have you as part of The LPF. What does joining mean to Finchatton?

Finchatton has always been at the forefront of super-prime development. We wanted to be part of the conversation about making the industry better – more innovative, more sustainable, more diverse. The LPF is a massive player in making sure that important conversations are being had within the industry and the sector is being constantly educated by experts within the forum.
