The Luxury Property Forum & Formation Architects - Amazing Senior Women

Formation Architects are an established, award-winning architectural practice based in Central London. With a staff of 80 and growing, we offer a powerful combination of development understanding, design flair and construction know-how.

We became 100% Employee Owned in 2015, whereby we don’t have shareholders; this gives us more design freedom, and we don’t have to push any particular agenda, this also promotes an entrepreneurial culture and attitude internally, which brings the whole team together and establishes the next chapter in the practice’s legacy.

Working all over London, the South-East and internationally, Formation Architects is an ambitious and dynamic practice with a growing reputation for high quality design and professional delivery -especiall in the luxury sector.

We enjoy collaborating with a wider creative network of world-renowned interior designers, artists and highly-skilled craftsman; this enforces a unique level of detail and understanding about the built environment, and how to build in order to design effectively. We are able to focus on both ends of the project chain really well; the creative inspiration and clients are at one end, and we translate that into what the contractor requires in a very clear and efficient manner, while herding the myriad of other consultants and specialists in between.

The championing of female talent within the office is fundamental, with Formation Architects becoming the first AJ100 Practice to pass 50% female architects by qualification in 2016. We are very proud that half of our team are women, and they are championed both in the studio and the wider industry, we’ve joined the Image of Women in Construction project with the NAWIC and are actively take part of the Women in Architecture programme and two of our female Architects were finalists in the WICE awards 2019. Women are represented at senior management level throughout  the studio and have an active role in shaping and influencing the talent, culture and projects.

We are also looking to the next generation, and along with established mentoring programmes, we have also started our own apprenticeship scheme teaming up with South Bank University and Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust as part of our mentoring scheme to get less privileged pupils and those from BAME background into architecture.

Clementine Guillet, Associate Director at Formation Architects

Clementine Guillet, Associate Director at Formation Architects

Clementine Guillet, Associate Director at Formation Architects, joined the practice in 2008. Her wealth of experience has primarily focused on high quality residential restoration projects such as the Grade II* listed Dudley House (100 park Lane), and 11 Upper Phillimore Gardens gave her the opportunity to flourish in her role, leading the project from concept to delivery and rising in the practice to Associate. More recently she has been running a private residential fit out project on Upper Brook Street in Mayfair and other large, complex restoration projects of listed buildings including 35 Belgrave Square and 7 St James Square.

Along with the creative and technical aspects that come with her role, she particularly enjoys building long term and collaborative relationships with world renowned interior designers, highly skilled crafts people and being hands-on when on-site with contractors.

Externally, Clementine is our “Inspiring Woman” nominee, as part of our NLA programme, where she has been invited to speak at regular industry panel and speed mentoring events. She has also been selected by the Fluid diversity mentoring programme and enjoys nurturing the next generation. In 2019 we she selected as a Finalist as Best Female Mentor in the WICE awards and in 2020 was a speaker at the Women in Construction Summit.

As Associate Director, Clementine’s role to influence the next generation of female architects in the practice is more important than ever, with the latest figures from the Architects Registration Board (ARB) show that just 29.6 per cent of the nation’s 42,340 qualified architects are women. Seeing Clementine and many of her female peers rise up in Formation Architects over the past 13 years is testament to what the right support from the culture of the practice can achieve and we are excited to see who’s next…
