LPF Rising Star - Elizabeth Kelly at Angel O'Donnell Design
In an industry rife with gender disparities, The LPF is committed to positive change, empowering women and making the industry better for the next generation. In celebration of International Women’s Month, The LPF is shining a spotlight on our rising female stars, recognising their talent and potential while addressing systemic challenges for women in the industry. Among these trailblazers and an LPF Rising Star is Elizabeth Kelly, Senior Project and Procurement Manger at Angel O'Donnell.
In the interview that follows, we delve into Elizabeth’s experiences, shedding light on her journey and need to make the luxury property industry more inclusive and equitable future for the next generation of women.
Hi Elizabeth, so great to have you here. Please could you tell us about your proudest career moment so far?
I think my proudest career moment to date has been being part of the growth and success of the Angel O'Donnell team. Seeing our Centrepoint Project in Elle Decoration was a real career highlight after being part of the huge team effort to get the project ready for launch!
Have you faced moments of doubt in your career, and how did you overcome them?
I have a tendency to doubt my own ability to manage situations where I am juggling lots of parties at once (such as on project installations) but working under two directors who have such unwavering faith in me has given me much more confidence to be assertive and back myself!
What do you think are the main challenges women face in the luxury property industry, and how can they be addressed?
I think women face a range of issues in both the luxury property industry, and in the work place as a whole, but one of the issues that worries me most is maternity pay and cover and the lack of access to affordable childcare. There is no easy fix but I think the UK is dramatically behind other countries such as Sweden, Finland and Norway, when it comes to maternity leave/pay and access to childcare.
Who has been your biggest supporter, and how have they empowered you?
My parents and my partner! Both equally amazing forces who continually support me and inspire to do and be the best version of myself!
Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you give to young women starting their careers?
Trust your gut and give things a go! I am so grateful for the colorful career path that got me to where I am today but it has involved a lot of trial and error which provided me with a whole range of experience.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future?
I really want to work on a few international projects to add to our portfolio and test my skillset outside of London!
