LPF Rising Star - Nicole Lindley at Charlton Brown Architects
In an industry rife with gender disparities, The LPF is committed to positive change, empowering women and making the industry better for the next generation. In celebration of International Women’s Month, The LPF is shining a spotlight on our rising female stars, recognising their talent and potential while addressing systemic challenges for women in the industry. Among these trailblazers and an LPF Rising Star is Nicole Lindley, Associate at Charlton Brown Architects.
In the interview that follows, we delve into Nicole’s experiences, shedding light on her journey and need to make the luxury property industry more inclusive and equitable future for the next generation of women.
Hi Nicole, so great to have you here. Please could you tell us about your proudest career moment so far?
I am most proud of the successes and achievements gained with and by my peers. I am very lucky to be surrounded by an extremely talented group of people who bring joy to work daily. Seeing them progress and succeed is one of the most fulfilling parts of being part of a team. From these talented people I have learnt the strong impact of surrounding yourself with people who are driven in what they do and who endeavour to lift those around them up too. Success is, of course, best shared.
Have you faced moments of doubt in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Ever since I was a very young woman I have participated in team sport. Whilst also being great for your health, team sport teaches many life lessons including determination, passion and teamwork. It also helps you understand the resilience required in order to achieve a goal - success may not come the first time you try, but you learn from the experience and come back stronger than before. These lessons have definitely shaped my approach to situations where I may feel less confident.
What do you think are the main challenges women face in the luxury property industry, and how can they be addressed?
Management and leadership positions in the luxury property industry are historically, and still today contain little diversity. There has been an evident shift in recent years towards the notion of creating a more diverse industry, however there is still so much more to be achieved to reflect a real representation within those upper levels. Whilst gender balance remains important, strong leadership is required to address inclusivity at a much wider level taking into account other under represented people.
Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you give to young women starting their careers?
My advice to the next generation of women in the industry would be to keep being you and striving for what you believe in. Adversity comes in many forms, there will always be road bumps, but it is important to remember you are great and your hard work will see you through. Surround yourself with people who align with your message and support them along the way, together we can be a force for positive change.
